Being a scholar on personal autonomy as well as a devoted Christian living a church life for God's eternal economy, I know that "in my flesh, nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but to work out the good is not."(Romans 7:18) Therefore, my attitude toward my graduate student is rather a liberal paternalism. I would encourage innovation and creativity in topics studied and methodology chosen,in the hope that students can explore their own academic interests and get to know their intellectual capacity and limitation. Nonetheless, I am very rigid in deadline-following. I hope my advisory can help students graduate on time.
