With the advent of the era of precision medicine and big data analysis, biostatistics and data science play a pivotal role in biomedical data processing and data analysis, which, through various statistical methods and big data analysis tools, can transform biomedical-related data into meaningful information on biomedicine, public health or clinical medicine, and be provided as a basis for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and prediction of human diseases.
The educational program of our division is designed to emphasizes on building the foundation for statistical analysis skills and the ability to correctly apply and develop new statistical methods. In addition to traditional biostatistical methods, we also strengthen the learning of other data science methods, such as use of big data. More importantly, students are trained to think independently while being a team player, to actively carry out cross-field and cross-industry collaboration, and to be able to apply correct data analysis in every aspect of public health, such as conducting research with innovative statistical methods, applying clinical medical data analysis, or facilitate the development, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases, and disease prevalence and prediction, etc.
The main research and development areas of our division include: statistics and data information, categorical data analysis, survival analysis, genetic epidemiology, genetic data analysis, epidemiological statistical methods, long-term follow-up data analysis, clinical trials, infectious disease models, Bayesian statistical inference, machine learning, artificial intelligence models, and big data analysis. We have excellent teachers, including full-time teachers, and senior teachers from the National Institute of Health and the Institute of Statistics of Academia Sinica, with diverse courses, allowing students to expand their horizons.
Students graduated from our division have either entered into important positions in contract research organizations, research institutes (such as medical centers, Academia Sinica, National Institutes of Health), and pharmaceutical companies, entered financial institutions to engage in financial management and risk control, continued to study in doctoral programs, or became a civil servant.
