Hello! We are the Division of Health Policy and Law. Established in 2006, the division is the first research institute in Taiwan to integrate health policies, medical ethics, and legal educational resources with the mission of cultivating masters and doctoral students with aspirations in the research and practice of health policies and law.
The research and practice of health policies and law must rely on a high degree of professional integration and conduct an in-depth exploration of the social context behind relevant issues. Compared to traditional programs of public health or public health administration, we provide integrated courses on inter- & multi-disciplinary health policy and law. We have faculties in health economics, medical ethics and law, medicine, epidemiology, human rights to health, health policy and management, history of medicine, medical anthropology, and health policy and politics. Moreover, we collaborate with various institutes, including Academia Sinica, National Health Research Institutes, and overseas establishments, such as Johns Hopkins University, University of Michigan, Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, etc., on joint research programs. We enjoy teaching and inspiring students to provide a solid education in each subject matter and relevant methodologies. Some courses are taught in English, so students may learn along-side international peers from Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa to experience multicultural studies and broaden their perspectives on international issues.
We welcome a new generation of students who are interested in the research and practice of health policy and law. Regardless of your current profession, whether in healthcare, legal affairs, health administration, medical facility management, or social services, you are welcome to join our division to discover your future professional orientation.
Our main research areas include: health policy making, policy evaluation, patient rights, medical disputes, medical law, public health ethics and law, research ethics, life technology and ethics, organizational strategic management, international health aid, health insurance, healthcare systems, healthcare utilization and cost, physical and mental disabilities, patient and physician behavior, pharmacoepidemiology, drug and substance abuse, mental health of children and adolescent, maternal and child healthcare, as well as healthcare and society. In addition, the following structure diagram is used to integrate education, research, and practice.
Graduates of our program enjoy a wide variety of professional opportunities, including studying abroad, teaching, and working in hospitals, health administration agencies, legal institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and non-profit organizations.
